Maple News reports that the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) held its fifth immigration draw of 2025 on May 15, issuing 168 invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residence to qualified candidates in high-demand sectors.
This latest draw focused exclusively on two streams under the provincial program: the Labour Impact Category and PEI’s Express Entry pathway. According to the PEI Office of Immigration, invitations targeted skilled professionals whose occupations align with the province’s economic priorities. Notably, sectors such as healthcare, trades, and manufacturing were given top consideration, reflecting current labour needs.
The draw is part of PEI’s strategic approach to address sector-specific labour shortages during a year in which the province’s allocation of provincial nominations has been cut in half. In 2025, PEI was granted just 1,025 nominations by the federal government, requiring the province to make careful decisions when issuing ITAs.
So far this year, PEI has issued a total of 569 invitations through its PNP — all coming from the Labour Market and Express Entry streams. The consistent focus on skilled labour highlights the province’s efforts to boost its workforce sustainably with talent ready to contribute immediately to key industries.
Applicants working in sales and service roles have been deprioritized this year, as PEI continues to ration its limited quota for candidates with technical or essential expertise in sectors experiencing the greatest need.
Through the PEI PNP, candidates with a valid Express Entry profile or work experience aligned with the province’s Labour Impact stream may be invited to apply for a nomination. This nomination provides a significant advantage in the federal application process, granting an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points in the Express Entry system and virtually guaranteeing an invitation to apply for permanent residence from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Maple News will continue to track PEI PNP draws and provide updates as the province issues more targeted invitations under its reduced nomination cap.
