Manitoba Targets Skilled Overseas Workers in New Immigration Draw

Maple News reports that Manitoba continues its strategic efforts to attract international talent through its Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). On May 15, the province conducted a draw inviting skilled workers from overseas who have strong ties to Manitoba.

A total of 62 candidates were issued Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) through the Skilled Workers Overseas stream. This particular draw was exclusive to individuals who had been directly invited under Manitoba’s strategic recruitment initiatives, which focus on connecting with foreign talent who have a demonstrated connection to the province.

Of the 62 selected candidates, eight had valid Express Entry profile numbers and job seeker validation codes, potentially streamlining their path to permanent residency through the federal immigration system. The minimum score required to receive an invitation in this draw was 626.

The Skilled Workers Overseas stream is designed for individuals outside Canada who can prove a close link to Manitoba. To be eligible, applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria: have close family or friends residing in the province, have previous work or educational experience in Manitoba, or be selected through the MPNP’s Strategic Recruitment Initiatives.

In addition to the connection requirement, candidates must score at least 60 out of 100 points on Manitoba’s assessment grid. The scoring system evaluates five key factors: age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and adaptability.

This draw underscores Manitoba’s commitment to attracting skilled workers who are more likely to integrate into the province’s economy and communities. By prioritizing those with existing ties, Manitoba aims to boost retention rates and contribute to long-term regional development.

As immigration remains a priority for the province, future draws are expected to continue targeting qualified individuals who align with Manitoba’s labour market goals.

For foreign professionals seeking permanent residency pathways outside the federal Express Entry route, Manitoba’s Skilled Workers Overseas stream offers a promising alternative—especially for those with meaningful connections to the province.
