Canada to Resume Direct Flights from Morocco with Updated Entry Requirements

Maple News reports that Canada will lift its suspension on direct flights from Morocco, starting October 29 at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time. The decision comes as COVID-19 case numbers stabilize and travel safety protocols evolve. With this change, travelers from Morocco can once again fly directly to Canadian destinations, provided they meet enhanced public health measures.

According to Transport Canada, passengers departing from Morocco must present a negative COVID-19 molecular test performed within 72 hours before the flight. The test must be administered by Morocco’s government-approved facilities and recognized by the European Commission.

In cases where travelers previously tested positive for COVID-19, Canada will accept a positive result from a molecular test conducted between 14 and 180 days prior to departure—if the infection occurred before arriving in Morocco, the traveler must prove it happened in another country.

Airlines will verify the authenticity of all test results by scanning QR codes and matching them against passengers’ identification. Travelers are also required to use the ArriveCAN app to upload health details and documentation before flying to Canada.

Those transiting through third countries on their way from Morocco to Canada must obtain a valid molecular COVID-19 test from the country where their connecting flight occurs. This requirement applies even if the final destination is a Canadian city.

Entry into Canada remains restricted to fully vaccinated non-essential travelers. Accepted vaccines include Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson). Passengers must also provide a pre-departure negative test, proof of full vaccination, and a quarantine plan, even if they qualify for quarantine exemption.

Canada first enacted a flight ban on Morocco in August following a spike in COVID-19 cases. The measure, initially set for 30 days, was extended through September. With the new travel policy in place, travelers and airlines are urged to prepare early and follow all documentation protocols to avoid disruptions.

Maple News will continue monitoring Canada’s evolving travel guidelines and border policies to ensure international travelers stay informed.
